I couldn’t agree more and it is not the first claim from the Baroness which gets the media machinery buzzing with wild claims completely unfounded… 

The blanket statement is not at all useful either as there is a growing amount of evidence that certain game mechanics, when implemented appropriately could be used for learning (or motivate to learn).

Like for all things used in moderation, videogames could be a great tool for learning. I’ve learnt my first english by playing games such as The secret of Monkey Island on PC and Defenders of the Crown or Leisure suits Larry on the Amiga. 20 years later I’m here with a PhD from a British University! I can reassure you that this is not thanks to my teacher at school at the time…
